I have worked in the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) field for many years and have an outstanding track record in a diverse range of roles (deputy head, assistant head, teacher, local authority education officer and educational publisher). I now work as BackPocketTeacher – an author, trainer and consultant in the field of child bereavement, specialising in the (sadly often overlooked) needs of bereaved children with SEND. I also work as a training facilitator for the national child bereavement charities Winston's Wish and Child Bereavement UK. In autumn 2020 I began studying for a PhD alongside my work as BackPocketTeacher, researching bereavement and SEND, specifically: how do children with severe learning disabilities (SLD) and profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) express their grief and how do they communicate their questions, concerns and thoughts about grief?
